LOWER CAPE FEAR UMBRELLA MITIGATION BANK

LOCATION: BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA

The Lower Cape Fear Umbrella Mitigation Bank currently consists of two wetland and stream sites in Brunswick County just west of Wilmington, North Carolina. Both sites are situated in close proximity to the Cape Fear River.

The location of the Bank sites provide the unique opportunity to be in close proximity to an urban center while at the same time restoring and preserving unique natural heritage areas.

The Bank services the greater Wilmington (NC) area including New Hanover County, Brunswick County, Columbus County, Bladen County, and Cumberland County. THE BANK IS OWNED AND OPERATED BY LCFUMB, LLC OF WILMINGTON NC.

ECOLOGICAL BENEFITS:

The Lower Cape Fear Umbrella Mitigation Bank (Bank) has resulted in the restoration, enhancement, and preservation of 500 acres of significant wetland and headwater stream habitat of the Cape Fear Region, North Carolina. In doing so, the Bank provides for high quality mitigation to offset wetland and stream impacts authorized by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the North Carolina Division of Water Resources.

Permit applicants can readily acquire the necessary mitigation credits for any unavoidable impacts to wetlands or streams resulting from their project.

MITIGATION TYPES AND QUANTITIES:

The Lower Cape Fear River Mitigation Bank offers several types of mitigation including: non-riparian wetland, riverine wetland, and stream. The table below outlines specific mitigation types and quantities offered by the Bank.

GEOGRAPHIC SERVICE AREA (GSA):

The Bank services several counties in the Cape Fear region and includes the City of Wilmington, Brunswick County, Columbus County, Bladen County, and portions of Cumberland County. The GSA includes the recently constructed Interstate 140 (Wilmington Bypass) corridor.
